Domyn-Led EUROPA Consortium Wins EU Frontier AI Grand Challenge
The EU Commission has selected the EUROPA consortium to build a new open-source frontier AI model.
Led by the Italian company Domyn, this project will develop a 400-billion-parameter model supporting all 24 official EU languages. While many existing models prioritize English, this one is designed from the start to work across the different languages used in European public institutions and healthcare.
This matters for the public sector because it offers a path toward tech sovereignty. It provides a way to access high-level AI without relying on US or Chinese providers. Because the project will follow the AI Act framework from day one, it could simplify how government bodies use AI while staying compliant.
