AI Omnibus enters into force
The EU’s AI Omnibus officially entered into force on 27 July 2026.
This legislative update aims to simplify the administrative rules for using and developing AI across Europe. It introduces a more proportionate approach by extending many simplified obligations from small businesses to include small mid-cap companies. The update also provides extended timelines for high-risk AI systems, with some rules starting in 2027 and others in 2028. It expands access to regulatory sandboxes and introduces a new EU-level sandbox to help companies test their systems under supervision. Additionally, it clarifies the relationship between the AI Act and other existing EU laws to provide better legal certainty for developers.
